Flowers for Cutting

Last Saturday was Open House at Blue Moon Gardens. I always make a flower arrangement for the table on the porch. This year the flowers in bloom were very different.
I normally cut lots of Louisiana iris but most of them were finished flowering for this season. Deutzia Pink-a-Boo was still blooming a bit but not as much as usual. Instead the Cinco de Mayo roses were fabulous. I love the coral, pink and purple colors in them and the fragrance is lovely. The Euphorbias were at the end of their blooming period and I was ready to cut off the flowers anyway so perfect timing. Verbena bonariensis was in its full glory along with Dianthus First Love. I thought about cutting Salvia Mystic Spires but I couldn't bring myself to do it. The plants looked too perfect they way they were.
I usually make arrangements only for company. The windows in my house look out at the gardens so I just enjoy the flowers in the flower beds most of the time. It is amazing though that no matter what time of year, I can find something interesting to pick for arrangements. I love to use shrubs, herbs and grasses too. I also enjoy making tiny arrangements to put on my kitchen window sill. They always put a smile on my face.
