Dying Fabric

A friend of mine has a retreat each year at her home. Friends come and spend a week dying fabric for their sewing projects and most of them have been at it for 40 years. I was invited to spend a day with them learning how to do the process and I was so amazed at their organization. Kathy's husband has this incredible workshop that the girls use and it has plenty of space inside and out for all their needs.

They had 95 colors mixed and ready to use so at first it was a bit overwhelming trying to decide what to do.

Another amazing thing was this double sink set up outside under a shady porch making it a breeze to rinse everything out. You could tell they had really given lots of thought over the years to making it all go as easily as possible. And check out the old fashioned crank ringer perfect for squeezing the water completely out of the fabric before it goes on the clothes line.

I loved the colors in this particular t-shirt.

These are the t-shirts I dyed. I used a lot of different colors to see what I liked. My husband is willing to wear all but two that are a bit pink.
The one below has the most interesting pattern on the back of it. It was a fun day and I am looking forward to the next opportunity to play with dyes.
